INFORMATION ON COOKIES

Information on the use of cookies pursuant to Provision no. 229 of 8 May 2014

What are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that the sites visited by users send to their terminals, where they are stored before being re-transmitted to the same sites on the next visit. Cookies of the so-called “third parties” are, however, set by a website other than the one the user is visiting. This is because on each site there may be elements (images, maps, sounds, specific links to web pages of other domains, etc.) that reside on servers other than that of the site visited.

What are cookies for?

Cookies are used for different purposes: execution of IT authentications, session monitoring, memorization of information on specific configurations concerning users accessing the server, memorization of preferences, etc.

There are different types of Cookies:

  • Technical: These are cookies that are used to navigate or to provide a service requested by the user.
They are not used for other purposes and are normally installed directly by the website owner.
  • Analytical: These are cookies used to compile site usage statistics.
  • Profiling: Cookies used to track the user’s navigation on the net and create profiles on his tastes, habits, choices, etc.
With these cookies, advertising messages can be transmitted to the user’s terminal in line with the preferences already expressed by the same user when browsing online.
  • Session cookies: They expire and are deleted at the end of the browsing session (closing the browser).
  • Persistent cookies: They do not expire with the session but remain active for very long periods of time (months, years) and allow the site to automatically recognize the user and his preferences.

Who installs Cookies?

Cookies can be proprietary, or installed by the site you are visiting, or third-party, or installed by sites external to the one you are visiting.
For third-party cookies it is up to the respective owners to obtain consent to use and to give the option not to install and/or delete them, while the site owner remains responsible for informing the user of the presence of these cookies.
